Okay, here we are on “American Idol”, night of the ladies. Yes, it’s the girls’ turn to “shine” and hopefully “outshine” the guys! And do they? Nah! Not to my ears and certainly not to my eyes as well. Perhaps I’m being a tiny bit hard on the females? Listen, if they have half the looks which this year’s batch has and the vocals to match, you certainly would be having pretty high expectations of them, won’t you?

Else I’ll be screaming “Bring Paris Tassin back!!!”. “AI” judges, are you an earshot away from this very persistant “Paris Tassin” fan? Hello?? J.Lo, Steven, Randy, you hear me??? Ryan…???

Sigh, I guess nobody’s listening. Well, on with the show… after all, there’s still Thia.

Yes, the lovely Thia Megia who now reigns supreme in my Top Favorite List for females. And how did she fare among the fair ladies? Well, considering that the whole night was almost filled with “noisy” female voices pitching against the all-encompassing loud music accompaniment from the band, Thia was a God-send. She started her selection “Out Here On My Own” in a quiet, clear, expressive tone with no music to back her but which obviously grabs the attention of all in attendance, “yours truly” included. Smart move from a 15-year-old, I must say. By the time the band came on, she’d build the song up to the energy level much needed to leave us quite contented with her performance. Yes, she most certainly will be among the 5 females to make the Top 10 List. Mark my words.

Naima Adedapo. What can you say about her? The minute she comes on stage, my eyes zoomed straight to her outfit as they did every single time she makes an entrance. She certainly dresses differently from the others. And she sings differently too. I could swear that she’s bringing us back to “yesteryear”, a time when most songs had great melodies. With the dress she had on and the song to go with it – “Summertime”, she does hold you mesmerized throughout
the duration of her singing but somehow, it leaves you feeling that something was still missing from this very talented lady. But she does have my support for her “soulful” rendition.

I must say that it was pretty shrewd of Karen Rodriguez to sing Mariah Carey’s “Hero” in “Spanglish”? With this, she’s definitely made it her own. The male voters are going to love her. She’s ever so sweet and smiling. How could one say “No” to her? Could you, huh, huh??

Next, the surprise… Pia Toscano came up from behind – out of absolutely nowhere to suddenly make a huge impact on “cyberspace” right after her performance. Although she did justice to her version of “I’ll Stand By You”, to me it was by no means great or “heartfelt”.

I could still remember a certain “adorable” male contestant who got booted some 2 or 3 seasons ago during “Hollywood Week” because he did not want the band to accompany him during a solo performance of “I’ll Stand By You”. For some reason or other, the “AI” judges (at the time) declared that he did a poor job singing on his own without the band backing him up, but from my point of view, he did sound great. Perhaps “live” hearing is quite different from “television” viewing? Anyhow, he became a “web sensation” after his elimination and he was interviewed in quite a few famous talk shows. Now, what was his name again??

Anyway, back to this post and the female contenders. As can be seen here, some of my 2nd level favorites are not being mentioned because I am so very disappointed in their performances. They ought to thank their lucky stars that I am not allowed to vote – what being in another country and all. Lol!! Let’s hope they do better next time, that is if they have a “next time”.

Next, I’ll be posting my take on the results on both “ladies and gentlemen”. Look out for it. Until then, enjoy the following videoclip of my very favorite gal Thia Megia:
