You can accuse me of being a little “unfair” for proclaiming my 2 top “favorites” in this year’s “Dancing With The Stars” without even seeing the rest of the contenders “strut their stuff”. The thing is, not all countries outside the United States of America are fortunate enough to view all the top reality shows in their native country, mine included. We’re talking “free” screening on our television sets. Of course there are other ways to go about getting a peek.

For myself, I’ll have to make do with “online streaming” and since the 1st week of DWTS 2011 has just taken place, not many videoclips are making their rounds yet. So to cut to the chase, all I did was view 2 clips – of my favorite guy and gal – no less. And what a treat it was!!

My previous article was all about my “Karate Kid” Ralph Macchio – all grown up and looking “hot” in his prime. On this post, I’ll be talking more about “Cheers” Kirstie Alley. Yes, it’s been a while since that TV comedy hit series introduced us to a young Kirstie. She proved to us way back then that she could do “comedy” and she sealed it with her performance on the movie “Look Who’s Talking” and all its sequels. And it was with such ease when she took on dramas as well. I can still remember her in the epic miniseries “North And South”.

But the thing that struck me most about Kirstie all these years was the fact that she has this “bubbly” personality that seems to draw you to her the minute she opens her mouth. And those “eyes” and “big hair” she used to dorn and still does. Even when she took on those “extra” pounds, she still looked gorgeous. She has such a “big” personality. Go check any of the “talk” shows she’s guest-starred in and you’ll know what I mean. Yes, Kirstie Alley, how could anyone forget this vivacious actress!!

So when I realised that both Ralph Macchio and Kirstie Alley were making their foray into “dancing” in this season’s “Dancing With The Stars”, I told myself that I would watch their debut
on this popular reality dance competition and probably follow their progress all the way to the Finals. Yes, that was my prediction and following their 1st week’s performances, both of them are doing pretty well. In fact they are both leading in the top 2 positions. What more could I ask for.

But truth be told, I felt that Kirstie’s performance was a little better than Ralph’s. She was all “spunky” and “vivacious” while she did her routine with her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. To quote an article about her being a little nervous before the “Big Day”, she certainly fooled us because there certainly was no evidence of that. The minute the camera rolled and the spotlight hit her, she was all “ready to go” and “go” she did, all the way to the end looking like she’s really and truly enjoying herself and with an expertise and ease like she’s being “cha-cha-cha-ing” all her life. What an unexpected surprise!! The duo’s exciting performance with Cee Lo Green’s “Forget You” playing in the background earned them 23 out of 30 in their score.

As for Ralph Macchio, he started a little “cautious” at the beginning but picked up a little tempo as he went along and suddenly he was in “full throttle” swinging his partner Karina Smirnoff around like a “pro”. If he had “loosen” a little bit at the beginning, their dance routine would have been “perfect”. But as it is, the judges had no problem awarding their fox trot (to the tune of Dean Martin’s “Ain’t That A Kick In The Head”) the highest score of the night at 24 out of 30.

It looks like the 1st week of Season 12’s DWTS has started off on the right track and I certainly look forward to more amazing performances by both of my favorites. Now, if I could find time to search for videoclips of the rest of the other contenders. Mmmmmmmmm…

Meanwhile, check out the 2 videoclips that I had viewed. I’m sure that you’d agree with me that both Ralph and Kirstie deserved the 2 top placings.
