Of course it is by no means fair if I state that it was “luck” that got Stefano Langone going all this while on “American Idol” since the guy does have talent. Unfortunately, his singing voice alone could not win the hearts of the Americans who voted on “American Idol”. Even though I was not a fan of his, I’ve always marvelled at his tenacity to remain “positive” every single time he’s placed in the “Bottom 3”. It is this very admirable quality that is so very rare among young people nowadays.

To all those out there, whether it is a singing career that you’re pursuing, follow this fine example of a “never say die” attitude that was so prominently displayed each time Stefano was singled out as a possible candidate to leave the competition. But time and again he still managed to hang on until this week, when his luck finally ran out. Yes, I mentioned the word “luck” again because it all started weeks ago when he was eliminated from the “Top 10” but was picked by the judges to be included in the list after competing on the “Wild Card” round for a spot in the eventual “Top 13”.

When Pia Toscano an early “favorite” was eliminated, many of her fans yelled “foul” and yet, this young man continued to work fervently towards changing the minds of the voters. But time ran out and he was still unsuccessful at “connecting” with the audience. On his voice alone he was in his prime, but he was unable to bring forth that “special something” that most successful artistes possessed. Charisma, “star” quality, charm?? But I believe that with the right help in this direction, he would be able to break into the music industry. So, I say “good luck” to him. I think he deserves the break. Maybe J.Lo can give him a helping hand?

Anyway,
back to after the announcement was made. What was surprising on this night was the emotional scene we witnessed after the results came out. My man James Durbin was the one most hit. He had always shown his comradeship with Stefano in the last few weeks’ clips – especially the antics they displayed in the mansion. So tonight, it was heartbreaking to see James so upset by his pal’s elimination. Now these are “genuine” tears unlike some that have been showcased on other clips. And when he hugged Stefano and swung him up in the air, it was a beautiful sight to behold. Such buddies they were. Sob, sob!!

In the final moments of the night, as everyone from the remaining Idol contestants to the judges came on stage to comfort Stefano, did anyone spot James Durbin moving away from the crowd? Well I did and at that moment, I knew that James is such a beautiful human being.

Well, to sum up the night, I must of course mention the presence of Season 7’s “American Idol” David Cook – another of my old Idol “favorites”. He was back to perform “The Last Goodbye” an overall rocking number though I much preferred him singing a romantic ballad. But he belongs to a “rock” genre after all.

And what can you say about Katy Perry’s weird entrance, lights and all? And I’m talking “outfit” here. Yes, the costume she wore had dazzling lights swirling all over her bodice which apparently got me so mesmerized that I did not hear a word of the song she sang. Incidentally it was “E.T.” if anyone recognised it at all, what with the heavy-duty “theatrics” going on.

When the show closed, Ryan Seacrest announced what the coming attraction was for next week. Well, all I can say is that I am certainly looking forward to next week’s theme when the remaining Idol contestants take on “Carole King”, one of my all-time favorite female singers. Let’s see if they can bring her songs to life. Well, they’d better…
