Okay, okay... I know I got it wrong... it's supposed to be "A Rose By Any Other Name Will Smell Just As Sweet (or something to that effect).  It was intentional that I worded my "Title" differently.

A Rose By Any Other Name Will Be Just As "Creative".

What do I mean by the above?  Well, the thing is some parents come up with the most "creative" names for their newborns.  Some are pretty weird and bizarre, some too long to pronounce (not to mention "spelt").  Do they even think of the poor child in the future?  Growing up in the eyes of the public with strange-sounding names.  Is it supposed to give the baby "instant creativity"?  It's quite hilarious actually.

I'm not against "creative-sounding" names, especially for artistes in their quest for recognition and individuality in their careers - especially actors, actresses, singers.  It's different for them.  In fact, it's necessary for them - they're like public property, adored by millions.  So, their names have to have a "special ring" to them.  Yes??

Anyway, back to normal folks like you and I.  In case you're wondering why I'm ranting about "names", it's because of a post I published on my alter-ego's blog at AkitaWoof.com.  Basically, it explains how my name came about.  I never really liked my name, "Doris".  My American ex-boss once remarked that my name sounds "bookish" (actually, he stated that the name belongs more fittingly to a "Librarian").  At least, that's what I recall, if memory serves me right.  Well, I certainly do not "look" or "act" like one!!  Not then, and definitely not now!!

Anyway, I remember a time when I thought of changing my name to "Christine" 'cos being called "Chris" for short would be so "cool" - like it could be referring to either a male or a female.  Supercool!!  Of 'cos I was pretty young then, but I thought better of it (ie changing my name) 'cos despite the name "Doris" being "uncool" to me, it was still the name given to me by my beloved dad.  Good ol' dad!!

Well, the blog post that I published

in my other website is basically about "Doris Day", the Movie Legend - actress, singer, dancer extraordinaire.  Yes, I was named after her 'cos she was my beloved daddy's "favorite actress".  And yes, I was daddy's girl.  Noticed I said "was" 'cos my good ol' dad passed away a very long time ago when I was still in my "teens".  So, thank God for "creative" creations like the web, where I can surf for "treasured memories" of "old talents of long ago".  I sometimes wished that dad was still alive to enjoy the web.  I can imagine the joy he would get from "YouTube".  Yes, he loved music, but he loved the movies even more.  Did I fail to mention that we come from a long line of movie lovers and that my grandfather was in the movie business??  Ah, that's another story altogether...

To me, the web is like a "giant brain" whereby you can tap into and recall the past.  I think this is the most "creative invention of our time".  I say this because although I think that every invention from the telephone to the aeroplane to television is the key to "communication", the website is the "Mother of all Communications".  Yes, it is the ultimate connection factor.

So, to the person or sum of all people responsible for the website, I say a very big "THANK YOU".

And, to the folks who loved the sounds of yesteryears, I give you the voice of "Doris Day" (my namesake).  Listen and enjoy...

Dad, this one's for you... wherever you are... but still in my heart... always!!!  Miss you dad...
