Yes, I have been "in the dumps" lately, feeling "under the weather", experiencing "mood swings of sorts" due to the "heat wave" that's "smothering" the little island I'm residing in. And the "mosquitoes" aren't helping either. At least I think they're mosquitoes. They could be other insects for all I care, but since they attack you with such intensity and ferocity, they might as well declare that they're the dreaded "mosquitoes" (who've reigned supreme in the "insect" world as far as their reputation for "biting humans" are concerned).
And yes, it's going to be that kind of "blog" post again - the ranting, rambling kind. Yup! But don't go away just yet. I've something important to say. Don't I always... hehehe...
In spite of the horrendous climate we're having lately, one bright spot this week was the screening of "American Idol Season 9's Top 10 Women" just a few hours ago. Watching it sure livens up my spirit. BTW, we get it screened a few days after it goes "live" in US, which means that the results are already out. So, imagine how difficult it is for me to avoid seeing any headlines on the subject of this week's elimination - online or anywhere else. So, while I'm penning this "blog" post, I have yet to know if my "favorites" are still safe.
In case if anyone is wondering why I'm on the subject of "American Idol", the reason is obvious. The brain is a funny thing - you can be so damn depressed the whole week (like
in my case) and all it takes is a television programme to perk me up.
Last week, I had been quite upset with news of 2 "suicides" which were reported internationally due to the "celebrity" status of the families in question. One was of Andrew Koenig, son of Walter Koenig (Chekov from the original "Star Trek" TV Series). Andrew as everyone knows was in the popular Teen TV Series "Growing Pains" although I didn't realise that he was the son of Walter Koenig at the time. He had apparently been suffering from "depression". The other case was that of Marie Osmond's adopted son, who had also been treated for "depression" some years back. Both took their own lives. And I think that's so sad.
Don't underestimate the workings of your brain when "depression" sets in. I may not be medically or clinically "depressed", but occasionally when the "bad vibes" are felt, it is like no other. I strongly believe that chemicals within our brain are capable of mixing itself up like a bad concoction of a "cocktail" of sorts, and when that happens, "depression" rears its ugly head.
With that said, I have decided that if watching "American Idol" cheers me up and gets me off "feeling the blues", then I hope that by having some videoclips of it might help anyone who's feeling "not so great" at the moment.
Someone once said that "Music soothes the savage beast" or something along those lines. So, do let some music work its miracle on you as it has for me.
Doris Lim
Doris Lim, the owner of "CreativeThinkingForWomen.com", has only one thing in mind when she started this niche site, and that is to create awareness to the general public that you don't have to be a "rocket scientist" to have "creative thinking". She believes that no one should be thought of as being smarter or more creative just because one possesses a higher education. Of course, that helps a little. But, she believes that anyone can be taught to "think creatively". All one has to do is tap into that brain one has been born with and bring out the creative side. With so much knowledge and information available on the internet nowadays, it will take alot of effort, energy and time to select the best authors/writers, articles, tips and "how-to's" to come together in a creative process in this niche site and make it the "1-Stop Centre for Creative Thinking". And because Doris is a woman, this website will be dedicated to all "women", thus the name "CreativeThinkingForWomen.com" (Softly whispering... "men" are also welcome to visit).
A little bit of history about Doris. Having both an Asian and European background (Chinese and Portuguese), her thoughts are equally governed by both the East as well as the West. That accounts for her love of the English Language (she's being accused of having a British accent when she converses with Americans) and her obsession with Korean television serials (obviously, she has to make do with English subtitles). But, enough chit-chat.
Her credentials stem from her extensive years of experience working with "great minds" who "think creatively" and "act creatively". She has prepared speeches for politicians, consumer activists, assisted authors and researchers in the production of books and newsletters and also dabbled in the advertising and public relations sector.
Thus her quest now - to boldly go where no mind has gone before (no, we're not watching "Star Trek") and seek the BEST stuff out there in the "Cyber World" in order to share with her readers/subscribers, the various aspects of "Creative Thinking".
